The contractual area

Most rental contracts limit navigation to a geographic area. Until now, that clause could only be checked after the event, on the renter's word.
Alert when the area is left
You are warned during the rental, not on return. A call to the renter is often enough to bring the boat back into the area covered by the insurance.

How do you geolocate a rental boat?
A standalone GPS tracker is fitted out of sight on the boat, with no wiring and no connection to the on-board electrical circuit. It transmits its position over the NB-IoT network, with no SIM card to manage. On the TRAKmy platform you define home ports and the navigation areas authorised by contract: any exit from an area or any movement outside the operating period triggers an alert. Installation takes a few minutes per unit and a complete base is equipped in one day, by your own teams.
Which GPS tracker should you choose for a boat?
For boats exposed to spray, run-off and high-pressure cleaning, the ULTRA N+ is the best fit: certified IP68 and IP69K, IK09 impact resistance, replaceable 10,500 mAh battery for 5 to 10 years of battery life. For tenders, RIBs and small equipment where size matters, the COMPACT is enough: 95 g, IP68, 3 to 8 years of battery life. On powered units with a permanent supply, the REACT wires in at 10–30 V and keeps a backup battery in case of a power cut.
Does the tracker withstand sea water and spray?
Yes. The ULTRA range trackers are certified IP68 and IP69K (IEC 60529) : prolonged immersion and high-temperature, high-pressure jets. The casing is UV-stabilised, flame-retardant polycarbonate, designed to stay outdoors for years without cracking, unlike standard plastics. The tracker therefore copes with an open deck, a damp locker and jet washing.
Do you have to tell the renter there is a GPS tracker?
Yes, it is mandatory. The presence of the device must be stated explicitly in the rental contract and in the terms and conditions given to the customer, together with the purpose pursued and the data retention period. Beyond the legal obligation, this is what makes the history usable as evidence: data collected without the renter's knowledge loses its probative value in a dispute. Properly announced, geolocation also protects the honest customer, who then has neutral proof in case of disagreement.
What happens if the boat sails outside network coverage?
The tracker records positions on board and retransmits them automatically as soon as it finds a network again: no data is lost, only real time is delayed. This is the expected behaviour offshore or in some steep-sided river areas. NB-IoT coverage extends to more than 74 countries, and dual-network NB-IoT and LTE-M trackers switch by themselves to whichever network is available, which markedly improves continuity in coastal and cross-border navigation.
How long does the battery last, and do you have to work on the boat?
Between 3 and 10 years depending on the model and the chosen reporting frequency, with no recharging and no wiring. On the ULTRA and COMPACT ranges, the battery pack can be replaced by your own teams at end of life: the tracker is not thrown away. The platform provides a life expectancy prediction for each tracker, which lets you plan replacements during winter storage rather than in the middle of the season.
Can several marina bases be managed from a single account?
Yes. The platform brings the whole fleet together on a single map, with filtering by base, by unit type or by status. Each base can have its own geofences and its own alert rules while remaining consolidated for management. The Professional and Analytics plans add BLE sensors, scheduled reports and export to your management system.
